Can I give donations to Habitat ReStore?

Yes! We accept donations of new, used, discontinued or surplus building materials, appliances and home furnishings from companies, contractors, retailers and individuals. And we love it!

These items are then offered to the general public to purchase at significantly reduced prices and all proceeds are donated to Habitat for Humanity of Omaha to help build a stronger community.

How to donate an item to Omaha’s Habitat ReStore

1. Review the guidelines for your specific donation prior.

All items should be in good, clean condition and fully functional.

Kitchen & Appliances

We accept the following appliances if they are in working order, well maintained, and less than 10 years old. We also accept a variety of kitchen cabinets, countertops and wall tiles.

  • Beverage centers & wine chillers
  • Cooktops/stovetops
  • Refrigerators/freezers
  • Stoves/ranges
  • Garbage disposals
  • Microwaves
  • Trash compactors
  • Wall/convection ovens
  • Washing machines
  • Dryers (gas or electric)
  • Backsplashes & wall tile
    • Must be clean, full pieces that are ready to install; boxed or sacked for transport.
  • Cabinet doors/drawers
    • Wood only
  • Kitchen cabinets
    • Must have all doors and drawers, with no damage and fairly up to date.
    • Metal accepted if well maintained.
    • Extra doors accepted but no extra drawers.
  • Kitchen countertops
    • Laminate, stone, corian, granite, etc.
    • Must have no chips, cracks or other damage to structure or finished surface.
    • Common cutouts only (i.e. sink and cooktop), in rectangles or L-shapes only, unless it accompanies a matching cabinet.
    • Limited laminate rolls accepted with prior approval only.
  • Kitchen & bar sinks
    • Removal of faucet preferred.
    • New or used; normal wear and tear is okay.
    • No chips, spider veins or deep scratches in finish.
    • All materials accepted, including cast iron with approval.
  • Islands
    • Must have all doors and drawers with no damage and fairly up to date.
    • Metal accepted if well maintained.
  • Steam tables

We do not accept:

  • Handheld and countertop appliances
  • Water softeners
  • Dishwashers
  • Dishes, pots, pans, etc.
Bath

We accept the following bath accessories if they are in good condition with no chips or cracks and if all hardware is included:

  • Fiberglass bathtubs
  • Claw foot cast iron bathtubs
  • Jacuzzi/Jet tubs (new or used with pump included)
  • Sinks
    • If wall mount, new in box or unique antique only.
    • New or used for porcelain, steel or plastic, including pedestal sinks.
    • Handicap accessible sinks must have mounting bars.
  • Accessories: Towel bars, soap dishes, TP holders, tooth brush holders (wall-mount only)
  • Handicap grab bars and support items
  • Toilets (with bowl, tank and lid for residential use)
  • Bidets
  • Showers (full sets preferred; individual bases, panel sets and enclosures also accepted)
  • Shower doors (sliding or hinged)
  • Vanity tops (standard single bowl units only; must be rectangular in shape)
  • Medicine cabinets

We do not accept:

  • Steel and standard cast iron
  • Urinals
Lighting & Electrical

We accept the following lighting and electrical fixtures if they are fully functional, in good condition and if all hardware is included:

  • Ceiling fans (with blades, globes and light bulbs removed)
  • Conduit (new or used in minimum 4′ sections)
  • Wire (new or used in any gauge, type or length)
  • Commercial electrical supplies (for residential use, with manager approval)
  • Lights: ceiling, can, hanging, track, wall-mount, exterior (protected for transport)
  • Lamps: floor, table and desk (complete with shade preferred)
  • Bulbs: fluorescent, compact fluorescent and incandescent (new in original package only)

We do not accept:

  • Electronics (TVs, computers, stereos, etc.)
  • Commercial lighting
  • PCB-containing fluorescent lights
  • Light fixtures with old, cloth-insulated wiring
Outdoor

We accept the following outdoor items if they are in good shape and if all parts are included:

  • Decking (wood or composite and a minimum size of 100 sq. ft. if pickup)
  • Fire pits/patio heaters
  • Grills (if gas, without propane tank)
  • Patio furniture: tables, chairs, benches, swings and umbrellas (with little to no rust)
  • Landscape edging
  • Landscape fabric (new only)
  • Wall, veneer and landscape stone (for pickup must be palletized with forklift available)
  • Fencing (wood, composite and chain link; 10’ minimum)
  • Other fencing materials (chicken wire, orange construction fence, silt/erosion control, snow fence, etc.)

We do not accept:

  • Sheds
  • Swing sets & play sets
Furniture & Home Decor

We accept the following furniture and home décor items if they are complete and in good condition. Accepted materials include metal, solid wood, MDF or select particle board.

  • Dressers
  • Bookcases
  • Shelving
  • Display cases
  • Upholstered couches, chairs, etc. (select pieces only)
  • Dining room, coffee & side tables
  • Living/dining room chairs
  • Entertainment centers (not eligible for pickup)
  • Armoires
  • Mirrors (framed, approximately 4’ x 4’ or smaller)
  • Bed frames and head/foot boards
  • Office furniture (on a case-by-case basis for residential use)
  • Blinds & shades (full functioning and modern)
  • Curtain rods (wooden or metal)

We do not accept:

  • Mattresses/box springs
  • Sleeper sofas
  • Cribs
  • Wallpaper
  • Curtains/drapes/valences
  • Exercise equipment
  • Steel/large executive desks
  • Office cube walls or attachments
Cabinets

We accept the following cabinets and accessories if they are in good condition:

  • Doors, without cabinet (new or like new; not plywood or self-painted)
  • Drawers, without cabinet (new or like new; not plywood or self-painted)
  • Faces/fronts (only with complete matching cabinet set)
  • Drawer guides (in complete sets)
  • Cabinet pulls & hinges (without excessive wear or paint)
  • Filing cabinets
  • Kitchen & bathroom cabinets – see Kitchen and Bath
Flooring

We accept the following flooring materials if they are clean and well maintained. If applicable, flooring should be wrapped or boxed for pickup.

  • Carpet (commercial only – commercial donors, please call 402-884-6976)
  • Area rugs (with finished edges intact)
  • Wood flooring (minimum length of 6’ with no nails or rot; minimum 100 sq. ft. for pickup)
  • Tile: ceramic, porcelain, marble, granite, etc. (full pieces ready to install)
  • Tongue and groove (‘tongues’ and ‘grooves’ must be intact)
  • Parquet (full pieces)
  • Laminate (full pieces)
  • Vinyl rolls (New in original packaging and manufactured after 1980)
  • Vinyl tiles (New in original packaging and manufactured after 1980)

We do not accept:

  • Cove base, vinyl or rubber
  • Residential/used carpet
  • 9” vinyl tile, new or used (contains asbestos)
Doors & Windows

We accept the following doors and windows if they are standard residential size, fully functioning and in good condition (no rot, holes, dents, etc.). We also accept the following garage doors and accessories if they are complete and need no repair:

  • Interior doors
  • Bi-fold/sliding closet doors
  • Exterior/entryway doors
  • Metal & metal clad doors
  • Patio doors: 72” x 81” or 60” x 80” (with full frame and no broken seals)
  • Storm doors (with hinge piece, screen and window; top and side frame pieces)
  • Screen doors (with screen material intact)
  • Storm windows (with glass intact)
  • Double-paned windows (with full jamb and glass intact and a maximum size of 4’ x 5’)
  • Window sashes (new only)
  • Screen material (new only in full or partial rolls)
  • Wooden shutters (without multiple layers of paint or excess peeling)
  • Vinyl shutters (without brittleness or heavy fading)
  • Metal garage doors (with windows intact and a maximum size of 16’)
  • Tracks, springs, cables, rollers, hinges, etc.
  • Electric garage openers (in perfect working order and less than 10 years old)

We do not accept:

  • Commercial doors and windows
  • Wooden, steel or single hung windows
  • Glass panes (unframed glass)
  • Wooden garage doors/panels
Building Supplies

We are able to accept the following building supplies if they are in good condition and do not have nails or screws, as applicable:

  • Adhesives & caulk (unopened and not expired; not professional or industrial use)
  • Brick and block (full pieces with no mortar; palletized with forklift available for pickup)
  • Ceiling tile & accessories (new only, manufactured after 1980)
  • Drywall sheets (in useable ½ sheets or larger)
  • Joint compound/mud (unopened and not expired)
  • Drywall tape (clean and dry, never damp)
  • Corner bead (full, undamaged sticks or partial/full rolls)
  • Insulation: backed & unbacked (new)
  • Insulation: blown (new)
  • Insulation: sheet (new)
  • Trim & moulding (minimum of 6’ long)
  • Handrails (minimum of 6’ long)
  • Landing posts & spindles (full lengths – not cut off at floor level)
  • Railings: interior wrought iron, exterior any material (in complete sections or parts)
  • Dimensional lumber & beams (minimum of 6’ long)
  • Plywood (usable half sheets and larger)
  • Corrugated tin
  • Felt & roll roofing (new)
  • Flashing & edging (new and a minimum of 4’ long)
  • Guttering & accessories (new and a minimum of 4’ long)
  • Shingles (new and a minimum of five bundles; must be marked with manufacture date or contain the words “no asbestos.”)
  • Roofing tile (full pieces of clay or concrete tile)
  • Roofing vents (complete and fully functional)
  • Vinyl siding (new, uncut sheets; minimum of two full boxes)
  • Metal siding
  • Wood-based siding (minimum of 6’ long or half sheets)
  • Concrete-based siding (in original packing; manufactured after 1980)

We do not accept:

  • Ceiling tile grid pieces
Paint

We accept industrial/professional paint donations. Please call 402-884-6976 to schedule a pickup. We are not able to accept oil-based or flammable paints/stains.

We do not accept:

  • Residential paint donations (for residential paint disposal in Douglas and Sarpy Counties, please contact Under the Sink at 402-444-7465)
  • Chemicals, including cleaning products, pesticides, insecticides, herbicides, rodenticides, fertilizers, etc. (please contact Under the Sink for chemical disposal)
Hardware & Tools

We accept the following hardware items if they are fully functional and in good condition:

  • Door locks & knobs (packaged individually for easy reassembly)
  • Hinges (with all parts)
  • Nails, screws & bolts (sorted by type and size; no rust; minimum of 1 lb. if not in original packaging)
  • Miscellaneous hardware (sorted by type)
  • Hand tools (construction or gardening)
  • Hand-held power tools (with a plastic – not metal – body; new if cordless)
  • Stationary power tools (with all parts)
  • Gas-powered tools (please call 402-884-6976 for approval)
  • Ladders
  • Vacuums
Heating & Cooling

We accept the following heating and cooling accessories if they are in perfect working order and well maintained:

  • Furnaces/heat pumps (gas or electric; less than 15 years old)
  • Humidifiers & dehumidifiers
  • Air conditioners (if used, properly removed with a pipe cutter and pipe capped)
  • Window air conditioners (relatively modern)
  • Evaporators/A coils (preferably with matching condenser unit)
  • Thermostats (electronic/digital without mercury bulb)
  • Ducts (minimum of 2’ long sections)
  • Duct fittings
  • Vents/covers (without excessive paint)
  • Standalone fireplaces (non-venting)
  • Fireplace fronts & doors
  • Fireplace tools
  • Gas logs
  • Wood cradles

We do not accept:

  • Fireplace inserts
  • Water heaters
  • Fire hydrants
Plumbing

We accept the following plumbing accessories:

  • Faucets, pipes, fittings (pieces not fitted/glued)
  • PVC/ABS primer, cleaner & cement (accepted from businesses only; in original packaging with at least one month before expiration)

We do not accept:

  • Faucets used for services where water is consumed (Kitchen faucets, bathroom sink faucets)

2. Choose a way to donate.

  • Schedule a donation pickup with our online scheduler.
  • Call and speak with our donation coordinators at 402.884.6976 or email us. Donation appointments fill quickly, so make sure you call us in advance to ensure pickup.
  • Drop off your items at either of our stores. Donations are accepted from 9:30 am – 6:00 pm Monday through Friday and 9:00 am – 5:00 pm Saturday at our South location (24th/Leavenworth), or from 9:00 am – 7:00 pm Monday through Saturday at our West location (108th/Maple St).
